Celia Hammond Trust Animal Shelter

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing a number of cats at the Celia Hammond Trust shelter in Lewisham. These fellas are superbly looked after by dedicated staff and volunteers at the shelter, but they desperately need a good home. It's sad to see so many wonderful animals abandoned or unwanted and I would have taken them all home with me if I could, but heartening to see the work of the Trust and the people who give up their time there to look after the cats. Each cat in the shelter deserves a portrait, but the shots I came home with can be found in this gallery. A selection below.

If you are interested in adopting one of these or any of the other cats at the Lewisham shelter, please contact 0208 694 6545.

I have just seen the TV programme about the fantastic work done by Celia and her colleagues. what a shame she can only house cats in the London area - I live in East Anglia and even though I am more of a dog person; I have had cats in the past (no more than three at a time!) and loved them dearly. Catless at present; I could give a home to one or two pusses I am sure.....or maybe foster? I am sure there will be many others outside of London who would love to help these poor abandoned animals to find good homes.

I saw the programme about the trust and I have 5 rescue cats myself who are all doing well , I think Celia and her colleagues do tremendous work for cats in the London area. I hope this programme will be shown again even though I was in tears for these l
poor animals.

Lovely photos. Did Celia Hammond post these on its website, and, if so, did it see an increase in adoptions?
I've been thinking of offering to photograph shelter animals ever since I took this this spur-of-the-moment photo of my beloved rescue cat (pasted into website link above). If good photos can help animals find owners, I would like to help.

Hi, thanks! They did put lots of my photos on the site but I have no idea if it resulted in an increase in adoptions. I certainly hope so as that was the reason I volunteered to photograph the cats. As you say, a way of using photography to help animals. (by the way, the link to your picture was broken. By all means repost it as I'd like to see).
