Reportage versus traditional wedding photography
Reportage wedding photography is very much in vogue nowadays, and for good reason. Reportage – “the reporting of news or information of general interest” is a term gleaned from photojournalism and represents the antithesis of what wedding photography used to be – stiff, formal and devoid of creativity.
Today, weddings are more varied, creative and informal than ever, and wedding photography has moved with it.
Contemporary wedding photography style
Although I always seek to shoot your wedding unobtrusively as possible (I’m not there to direct operations - it’s your day), I am more than happy shooting a selection of formal shots if required. I prefer to call my style contemporary rather than pure reportage; I am happy to balance your needs as a paying client with mine as a professional photographer. I strive to make my pictures clean, properly composed, to the point and with the story of your day at all times behind their design.
Also, I don’t slavishly necessarily follow trends, such as for the vintage look or the pure black and white look unless I think a particular style suits a particular image or situation. But I am a relatively new wedding photographer and my style will develop and deepen over time.
The best way to judge my style is to view my My Wedding Photography Portfolio.
Please also see the positive feedback I have received from previous clients on the Testimonials page.
Wedding Photography Package
At present, I offer a single full day package but I am happy to tailor it to suit your requirements.
Before the big day
Getting to know my clients is vital to me and I want you to be as relaxed as possible on your big day without having to worry about me.
Therefore I will always try to meet informally with you in advance of your wedding to discuss my approach and what is involved in your package.
Full Day Package
I will shoot in a very relaxed and unobtrusive manner throughout your wedding day. I aim to cover the bride getting ready before the ceremony; the groom, his best man and his ushers before the ceremony (depending on time and geography); the bride’s arrival at the ceremony; the ceremony; the reception, including the guests; the speeches and the first dance.
After the wedding
Many wedding photographers bombard their clients with thousands of photographs of their wedding, which have undergone the minimal amount of post-processing and are, in essence, straight off camera. To me, this is both lazy and uninspiring. Nothing could be further from my philosophy.
Receiving your wedding photos should be a delight, not a burden, and all the hard work should have been done for you.
I want my clients’ experience to be as easy as possible, which is why I prefer to make the selections that tell the story and meet with our shared understanding and vision of your big day. What you end up with is a smaller selection of high quality, meaningful images.
I will carefully select the best 40-60 images and process them in colour and black and white for inclusion in the final album. I will make these and a wider selection of supporting images available on my web site in a private gallery for you to share with your guests.
A word about image production
I have a great deal of experience in advanced processing and retouching of digital images, therefore am confident that you will be happy with the products you receive. Please remember that every photographer is different and in producing your images I am also expressing my own artistic style as a photographer, therefore your final product may differ from the style of images you have seen elsewhere. Please check out my My Wedding Photography Portfolio for examples of the type of images I have produced in the past. Remember that it is my goal to tell your story in the best way I possibly can and to make everyone look as good as possible!
Where I Work
I am based in South East London and shoot weddings anywhere in London and the south east, although I am available to shoot your wedding anywhere in the UK.
